The doctors and staff at the Henry Moore Clinic and Fryston Road Surgery in the West Yorkshire town of Castleford are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We aim to be a "Family Practice". We are members of Wakefield Health Alliance, a local federation of GP practices working for the benefit of our region's patients.

We work from two surgeries:

Henry Moore Clinic, Smawthorne Lane


Fryston Road Surgery, Airedale

We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, contraception, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.

In addition to everything you need to know about the practice you will also find a wealth of health-related information in the menu on the right hand side. 

We offer online booking and online repeat prescriptions.

Coronavirus guidance – if you have returned from any of the countries listed below in the past 14 days or have been in contact with somebody who has already had a confirmed case of Coronavirus, and you have a cough, fever or shortness of breath please do not book an appointment online or come into the surgery, but instead immediately:

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu

Call NHS111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country

Travellers from other parts of China and other specified areas

This advice applies to travellers who have returned to the UK from the following areas:

  • China
  • Thailand
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Hong Kong
  • Taiwan
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Macau



We are aware that a lot of women are missing their vital smear tests, and there has been a lot of publicity about this on the news this week. The Henry Moore Clinic have been looking at ways to try and make this easier for women, particularly as many of those who need a smear (age 25 to 64) are working.

We are therefore trialling a special Saturday smear clinic in early March, purely for working women. Please contact reception if you would like to take advantage of this. There are also still lots of available smear clinic appointments during the week.

Zero Tolerance Policy

The Practice fully supports the NHS policy on zero tolerance

Anyone who verbally or physically abuses staff in any way will be removed from the Practice list

This includes:

  • Use of foul language
  • Finger pointing
  • Banging on reception desks
  • Shouting/raised voices
  • Any behaviour which makes staff feel intimidated and/or uncomfortable                       

Any comments we see on social media sites, for example, Facebook and Twitter will be seen as a breach of our Zero Tolerance Policy and you may be removed from the Practice list

In extreme cases we will involve the Police

GP CARE WAKEFIELD is an extended hours service owned by all Wakefield GP Practices to cover the entire population of the Wakefield District when the surgery closes. 


It operates:

 1800 – 2200 Monday to Friday.

 0900 – 1500 Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Telephones will be automatically diverted during operating hours.  Outside of these times please telephone 111 or ring back during normal surgery hours if your need is not urgent.

Following triage of your problem, if deemed appropriate the service will offer you a GP appointment at Trinity Medical Centre or Pontefract General Infirmary.


There needs to be shared consent in place for the service to be able to provide safe care therefore please ensure you give explicit record sharing consent when accepting an appointment with the service.  Patients who prefer not to give shared consent cannot access this service.

The service is not available for routine matters such as repeat prescriptions. 


Routine care by HCA/Nurse


In addition to the above, during 6pm & 8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am & 1pm on Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s, patients can be seen for routine annual review of Heart Disease, Diabetes, COPD, Asthma & Stroke but only if you are well controlled and your condition is stable.  Other routine nurse care includes:


  • Blood tests 

  • Routine ECG (not chest pain)

  • Spirometry

  • Review of contraception pill

  • Repeat depo injection

  • Smears

  • B12 injection

  • Removal of sutures and clips

Pontefract Hospital becomes an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) from April 9th 2018.  This service is non-life threatening illness or injury 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

They can help you with:

  • Stains, sprains and suspected broken bones

  • Minor Head Injuries

  • Cuts and Grazes

  • Bites and Stings

  • Minor Scalds and Burns

  • Ear and throat infections

  • Skin infections and Rashes

  • Eye Problems

  • Coughs and Colds

  • Feverish illness in adults

  • Feverish illness in children

  • Abdominal pain

  • Vomiting and Diarrhoea


All staff in GP surgeries across the Wakefield District Clinical Commissioning Group take part in a series of half day sessions once a month on a Wednesday afternoon to enable the provision of staff training.   This includes all GP’s, Nurses and Administration staff.

As we are fully committed to the training of all our staff your surgery will start taking part in the monthly training sessions.   This is to help improve our skills in providing efficient patient care in all areas.   The next training day will be on:

The surgeries will close at 12 noon.  If you require a GP urgently please telephone the surgery and you will be directed on how to access urgent care.


The practice is using TEXT REMINDER service for our booked appointments. We will assume consent unless you tell us otherwise.  If you wish to receive reminders please ensure your mobile details at the practice are up to date.

From the 1st November 2015 the Practice ceased to take repeat prescription orders over the telephone. Although we appreciate that this was convenient, it had actually been an area of concern for some time. The main concerns were with regard to clinical safety and the need to ensure that orders are correct. As a result, for protection and safety of patients, we do not accept repeat requests over the telephone.

In order to provide a clinically safe prescription service we feel it is appropriate to ask for all medication orders to be made by other means.

 Practice Repeat Prescription Ordering Policy

The practice no longer accepts repeat prescription requests from pharmacies on behalf of patients. We are aware that the online pharmacy, ‘Pharmacy 2U’ is currently mailing Wakefield residents advising of the services that they can provide. Please note that our policy also applies to Pharmacy 2U and therefore if you choose to nominate Pharmacy 2U to dispense your medicines, you will still need to order your own prescription from the surgery.

All pharmacies are still able to collect your repeat prescription from the surgery once it has been processed and deliver your medicines to you if they offer these services.

Please be assured that the practice has not provided Pharmacy 2U with your details and that we are not affiliated to them in any way.
